DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – Argo Roads South Peace says crews are busy replacing a culvert and resetting concrete on the Alaska Highway between Dawson Creek and Taylor, following a deadly tanker truck collision and fire that took place early Sunday morning, December 13.
The collision occurred between Taylor and Dawson Creek from the 228 road to the 230 road.
According to Dawson Creek RCMP, the tanker truck collided with an unoccupied vehicle parked or abandoned on the highway side. RCMP say the driver of the tanker truck did not survive the incident and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Due to the fire, a wooden culvert under the highway, containing creosote, had caught fire. Further investigations and repairs could not happen until the fire of hazardous toxins were extinguished.
The Highway is expected to reopen at noon on Thursday, December 17.
