DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – The Dawson Creek RCMP have confirmed the driver of a tanker truck that caught fire early Sunday morning has died.

The Dawson Creek RCMP say the tanker truck collided with an unoccupied vehicle parked or abandoned on the highway side.

The driver of the tanker truck didn’t survive the collision and fire. The RCMP says more details will be shared publicly on Monday.

The Alaska Highway will be closed until Wednesday between Taylor and Dawson Creek from the 228 road to the 230 road.

TAYLOR, B.C. – Highway 97 is closed near the Tervita plant after a tanker truck caught fire early Sunday morning.

The Highway is closed in both directions while fire crews from Taylor and Fort St. John fight the fire.

According to Drivebc.ca, there is no estimate on when the highway will be open again.  The highway is closed from the 228 road to the 230 road.  Watch for traffic control in the area, Drivebc.ca says the only way around the incident is to go through Hudson’s Hope.  Traffic is backed up in the area, it is best you avoid travelling to the area at this time.
