OTTAWA, O.N. – Prince George-Peace River-Northern Rockies MP, Bob Zimmer, joined parliamentary colleagues from around the world in participating virtually in the two-day fourth meeting of the International Grand Committee.
Taking place on December 1 and 2, on the second day, Zimmer spoke of his concerns regarding deliberate polarization online and the role algorithms play in this new digital public square.
He also spoke of the key issues he believes the committee should continue to focus on moving forward, including data usage, privacy, algorithmic accountability, and foreign influence in elections. He also stressed the importance of respecting an individual’s right to freedom of speech.
In May 2019, Zimmer hosted and co-chaired the second meeting of the International Grand Committee in Ottawa.
This fourth meeting was conducted by U.S. Representative David Cicilline.
