VICTORIA, B.C. – Premier John Horgan provided an update, Wednesday afternoon, urging British Columbians to remain safe until the current wave of COVID-19 is under control.

In order to reduce the transmission of the virus, Horgan says everyone needs to keep Christmas and Hanukkah gatherings to “an absolute minimum” this holiday season.

“This is a critical, dangerous time for British Columbia with respect to COVID-19. It’s absolutely essential that we reduce our interactions with people who are not in our bubble or in our co-hort or in our family, or in our household units.”

When it comes to the sick pay program for employees being forced to stay home due to COVID-19, Horgan says he wants to close the gap but is waiting for details on how many people are being forced to stay home without benefits.

In addition, the Government will consider a program where the Province subsidizes child care and they subsidize parents when kids need to stay home due to illness.

Horgan also says Ottawa has agreed that provinces should have a pan-Canadian strategy to remind people to stay within their own communities.
