FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The B.C. Liberals have announced the appointment of opposition critic roles within its party caucus as the province starts its new term of parliament.

According to the B.C. Liberals, Peace River North MLA Dan Davies has been appointed the new critic for Social Development and Poverty Reduction, and Peace River South MLA Mike Bernier has been named as the new critic for Finance.

In the previous term of parliament, Davies was the education critic, and Bernier takes over the role of finance from interim B.C. Liberal leader Shirley Bond.

Both Davies and Bernier say they are looking forward to serving the people of B.C. in their new opposition critic roles as the Province continues to deal with the on-going COVID-19 pandemic.

“I am incredibly honoured to take on this new role alongside such a strong team of Opposition MLAs,” said Davies. “British Columbians are looking for a vision that looks beyond the pandemic and into our economic recovery, that will create support and opportunities for even the most vulnerable members of our communities. I am looking forward to serving as the voice for many of the people and organizations who often feel they aren’t being heard.”

“In addition to its impacts on health and safety, the COVID-19 pandemic has also had a profound effect on our economy,” said Bernier. “In my new role as Finance Critic I will work to ensure that the NDP government increases its transparency about the economic situation in B.C. and puts in place a real recovery plan, so that our province, and every British Columbian, is able to have a bright and successful future.”
