FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Fort St. John RCMP are reminding the public that Charlie Lake is currently not frozen enough to be on the surface, this following a vehicle falling through the ice.

On Sunday, November 22, RCMP received a report of a submerged pickup truck after the driver attempted to cross Charlie Lake in order to go ice fishing.

Police say the ice proved to be too thin, cracking below the vehicle, and within minutes was entirely submerged. The driver was safe and did not sustain any injuries.

Anyone attempting to drive on Charlie lake this winter season should ensure that we have experienced a prolonged cold snap and test the ice thickness prior to going on the ice.

Posted below is an ice depth comparison chart.
