VICTORIA, B.C. – The B.C. Coroners Service is reporting that there were 162 illicit drug toxicity deaths during October.
According to the Coroners Service, the number of drug-related deaths is up from 127 in September, a 27 percent increase in the number of deaths.
So far this year, a total of 1,386 illicit drug deaths were reported across B.C., compared to 982 in 2019.
When looking at drug deaths within the Northeast, 24 have been reported so far this year.
This time last year, there were a total of 18 reported deaths in the Northeast.
As for the Northern Health Region, there have been 106 deaths this year, which is significantly up from 67 in 2019.
The Coroners Service says the province has now recorded eight consecutive months with over 100 illicit drug toxicity deaths.
