VICTORIA, B.C. – 25 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Friday, in the Northern Health Region, bringing the number of active cases to 95.

In the Northern Health Region, 18 are in hospital, with eight of those in ICU.

The total number of confirmed cases in the Northern Health Region now stands at 588.

Northern Health’s death count remains at five.

Earlier in the day, Northern Health reported a potential exposure of COVID-19 at North Peace Secondary School.

B.C. Hydro also reported four new cases of COVID-19 at Site C. It is to note, cases at Site C are not included in Northern Health’s numbers.

In addition to the increase in cases, as part of the Provincial Health Orders, the City of Fort St. John has made the wearing of face coverings mandatory at all City facilities to help reduce the transmission of the virus.

According to the Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, 516 new cases were confirmed across B.C., bringing the total to 25,474.

Active cases across the province stand at 7,122 and 17,477 have since recovered.

Hospitalizations in B.C. are at 217, with 59 of those in ICU.

The province’s death count is now up to 331.

10,002 people are currently under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.
