DAWSON CREEK, B.C. – The Peace River Regional District is holding a public hearing on Thursday, November 26, for a zoning bylaw amendment about cannabis-related businesses within the District.

Currently, the Regional District is proposing to repeal the Peace River Regional District Zoning Amendment Bylaw from 2018 and replace it with a Zoning Amendment Bylaw which will allow cannabis retail stores to be located in select commercial zones.

As of right now, cannabis-related businesses are prohibited throughout all zones in Regional District zoning bylaws. Any location that is proposed for the distribution and/or sale of cannabis would be required to apply for and obtain a zoning bylaw amendment.

The current bylaw does not provide guidance for where cannabis-related businesses should be located, other than to not allow one within 200 metres within a school and 100 metres within a park.

The public hearing on the zoning bylaw amendment about cannabis-related businesses is taking place Thursday, November 26, at 9:30 a.m. at the Regional District office in Dawson Creek.
