FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – With the current and upcoming cold and snow this season, the Fort St. John RCMP would like to remind drivers of some theft protection tips.

According to RCMP, drivers should never leave their vehicles unattended while warming up as this makes for an easy target for thieves to steal the vehicle, especially if it is unlocked while running.

Instead, drivers should either have the vehicle locked when warming up the vehicle or remain with the vehicle during this process in order to avoid theft.

In years past, RCMP say they have received reports for this avoidable theft.

Police say a violation ticket can be issued to drivers/registered owners under the BC Motor Vehicle Act for Unsecure Vehicle with a fine of $81.00.
