FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John will increase water and sewer rates in 2021.
Fort St. John City Council gave first reading to the bylaws that govern the amount charged to City residents on Monday.
City water rates will increase to $1.81 per cubic metre. That is an increase of four cents per cubic metre from current rates. Sewer rates in 2021 will increase to $1.90 per cubic metre from $1.81.
The City is also increasing the fixed rate for sewer charges from $12 a month to $13.
In 2012, the City approved a 10-year plan that would see rates increase so users would solely fund water and sewer functions, and the City wouldn’t need to subsidize the cost of the water system.
