FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John has approved a tender for a new two-way radio system for the Fort St. John Fire Department.

The tender was awarded to the lowest bidder, Petron Communications, for $125,565.60. The City had budgeted $250,000 for the upgrade.

According to Fire Chief Darrel Blades, the new radio system will replace an existing system of mismatched portable two-way radios. The system will also improve communication while on an emergency scene, and the equipment can be upgraded as technology changes.

The radios are also designed for extreme use, which should increase the lifespan of the equipment.
