VICTORIA, B.C. – 16 new cases of COVID-19 were confirmed Wednesday, bringing the total in Northern Health to 399.

As of Wednesday, there were 23 active cases within the Region, with one in hospital.

According to the Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, 287 new cases were confirmed, Wednesday, across B.C., bringing the total to 13,875.

When it comes to active cases across the province, there are 2,316 and 11,244 have since recovered.

Hospitalizations in B.C., are at 87, with 25 of those in ICU.

The province’s death count is now up to 261.

5,358 people are currently under active public health monitoring as a result of identified exposure to known cases.

Henry says our COVID-19 safety efforts start at home, and recently we have seen a number of new cases and clusters directly connected to social events in private homes. That is why there is now a provincial health officer order in place restricting the number of people who can safely be in our homes.

“The new order is about ensuring what happens in our homes is in step with what we are doing elsewhere. Just as we need to keep our groups to no more than six when we go to restaurants, we must also keep our groups small at home.”
