Energeticcity.ca/Moose FM asked the candidates running in Peace River South the same eight questions. A copy of each question and response has been posted at www.energeticcity.ca/election. Each day from now until the election, we will post one question a day and the response sent by each candidate.
Today’s question is do you believe a vote for the B.C Conservative Party or other similar parties will split the vote?
The following candidates are running in Peace River South, incumbent and B.C. Liberal candidate Mike Bernier, B.C. Conservative Party candidate Kathleen Connolly, B.C. NDP candidate Cory Grizz Longley and Dorothy Sharon Smith.

Question: Do you believe a vote for the B.C Conservative Party or other similar parties will split the vote?
It is proven as recently as the last election that smaller fringe parties like the BC Cons., who have not won a seat in BC for over 50 years only carve off enough votes to help the NDP win. The NDP would not be in Government right now if it was not for a few close ridings in southern BC that the NDP won last election by the BC Cons taking a few votes away. You only have to wonder why the NDP actually encourage them to run because they know, the only time in BC history that the NDP have won an election, is when the right of Center votes divide up. That party is only running 19 candidates out of 87 ridings and as the Provincial media has hilighted again, if the NDP win this election, it will be in part because of the BC Cons splitting the vote. That is why we all joined the same team years ago to avoid an NDP Government. I agree some don’t like my party name but that should not take away from the fact we are a right of centre free enterprise coalition party and the only ones running again in every riding and that can actually beat the NDP. This is is not fear mongering, it is just Provincial history and fact.
Ah, the age old question about vote splitting. in today’s political world minority governments seem to be the standard. It is my opinion, that this is a fear mongering technique of the Liberals to scare people into staying with their tired politics and lack of leadership. Voters have the right to choose the candidate who will best represent their interests and their region. Common sense isn’t political – let’s do more of that.
