FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – There have been some reports recently, on social media, of parents raising concerns about the lack of Educational Assistants for their children within School District 60.

According to Superintendent Stephen Petrucci, there is a bit of a shortage at some schools and the District is trying to add more people to the EA casual list to help support replacements, noting that the list is shorter than they would like it to be.

When it comes to some of the reasons for the lack of EAs, Petrucci says the School District has been hiring additional custodians and bus drivers, and sometimes, EAs will take those positions.

While there may be a lack of EAs within some schools, there are other interventions and supports that are deployed to assist students, such as additional teachers, professional development, youth-care workers, and learning resources.
