VICTORIA, B.C. – The B.C. Coroners Service is reporting that there were 127 illicit drug toxicity deaths during September.
According to the Coroners Service, the number of drug-related deaths is down from 150 in August, a 15 percent decrease in the number of deaths.
So far this year, a total of 1,202 illicit drug deaths were reported across B.C., compared to 761 in 2019.
When looking at drug deaths within the Northeast, 21 have been reported so far this year.
This time last year, there were a total of 18 reported deaths in the Northeast.
As for the Northern Health Region, there have been 95 deaths this year, which is significantly up from 66 in 2019.
The Coroners Service reports that both male and female illicit drug toxicity death rates have decreased in recent months from highs in May, June, and July.
