FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St. John Public Library Association Board of Trustees is making a request to the City to change from an Association to a Municipal Library.
According to Library Board Chair Andy Ackerman, associations are an outdated model and are being phased out.
“Associations are an old model of libraries, and for instance, right now, the Province of British Columbia is no longer accepting associations as a form of governance.”
Ackerman says the change would mean that the Library would become part of the City’s annual budget and not have to solely rely on making requests for grant-in-aid funding.
As for the proposed change, Ackerman says library users would see no change in services.
