Northeast BC sees number of jobs increase by 1,200 in September

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The unemployment rate in Northeast B.C. remained steady at 7.0 percent in September.

According to B.C. Stats, While the unemployment rate stayed the same, the number of people working in the Northeast during September increased from 37,100 to 38,300 in September.

At this time a year ago, the unemployment rate for the Northeast was at 6.2 percent, with 39,400 people working.

As for the rest of B.C.,  since August, 54,800 jobs were added, with the unemployment rate dropping to 8.4 percent.

The majority of the jobs added across the province were in educational services,  manufacturing, and finance.

Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, in February, the Province’s unemployment rate was 5.0 percent.

Across Canada, 378,000 jobs were added, while the national unemployment rate declined from 10.2 percent to just 9.0 percent.
