FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – With several wildfires taking place in the Peace region started by people the reminder is being put forward to be accountable and responsible when handling flammable material.

As the Peace region has been experiencing above normal temperatures and spring break-up is revealing the dry fibrous landscape of last years fall, the land is susceptible to easily catch on fire and spread.

Talking with Molly Blower, Fire Information Officer, she shares the landscape is on a drying trend, that grasses are curring and there is more vegetation available for fires.

Blower says it is really important to check when burning and that all sites are fully extinguished.

She says people should keep up to date with BCWildfire.ca and checking the guidelines for burning and burn categories.

To help mitigate the risk of wildfires it is very important to fire smart you home, “communities can work together to reduce vulnerability,” said Blower “To eliminate fire-related damage.”

This also includes making sure cigarettes are fully and properly extinguished.
