FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – This week’s Huskies Player of the Week is #12 defenseman Matthew Apsassin.

Each week, a different player from the Huskies will be interviewed.

As part of a weekly feature, Matthew was met at the rink to talk about himself and his team effort.

Matthew Apsassin Facts:

  • Age: 21
  • Height: 5′ 8″
  • Weight: 157 lbs.
  • Shoots: Right
  • Hometown: Fort St. John, B.C.


  • How long have you been with the Huskies?

Matthew: “This is going to be my fourth year, my last year with them, and it’s been great; love it.”

  • What position do you play?

Matthew: “I play defence. First three years I played forward, right wing, and just this year I moved to D and I’m loving it.”

  • How would you describe your style of play?

Matthew: “Aggressive and a little bit of puck protection, some smarts, and good with the puck.”

  • Favourite moment with the Huskies?

Matthew: “Probably winning the Championship, probably one of the best memories I’ve had with them.”

  • Favourite hockey team?

Matthew: “Edmonton Oilers. Yeah, my favourite team.”

  • Favourite player?

Matthew: “Connor McDavid. He’s a fast and I kind of like playing like him too, so it’s great.”

  • What music do you like?

Matthew: “Rap, hip hop, country; just anything.”

  • What’s your favourite food?

Matthew: “I’m going to have to say steak and mash potatoes.”

  • What do you hope for the future?

Matthew: “Hopefully to make it as far as I can in hockey and just try to get to where I want to go and play in the NHL, hopefully.”
