FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — Two separate and unrelated incidents created quite a smelly haze over Fort St. John yesterday. received several reports of a strong natural gas-like smell over the city during the early hours of Sunday morning. Fire Chief Fred Burrows said that two separate incidents occurring at roughly the same time ended up causing the smell.

According to Burrows, the first incident involved a parked commercial vehicle that was emanating the smell. He said that the incident was rectified when the truck’s owner drove back to their shop, located just outside the city, to fix the problem.

At roughly the same time that fire crews were responding to the commercial vehicle, Burrows said that another incident occurred at Troyer Ventures. He said that upon arrival, fire crews noted that officials with the Ministry of Environment were already at the scene, and that a clean up operation was already in progress. Burrows explained that though an odour was present, the incident did not pose a risk to the public.
