CHETWYND, B.C. – The wildfire burning near Hasler currently sits at 58 hectares but the BC Wildfire Service says the risk has been downgraded significantly.
Fire Information Officer Olivia Pojar with the BC Wildfire Service says the status of the fire changed to being ‘held’ on August 19. When a fire is held, that indicates the fire is unlikely to spread given the current weather conditions and the amount of suppression and resources assigned to the fire.
“There is crews on it today. Yesterday they were concentrating on mop up and they reported that it was very quiet in terms of fire activity and they didn’t see any open flames.”
Monkman Provincial Park has reopened after being closed due to wildfire activity. The park was officially reopened on August 21. Pojar says those fires are also being held and are not of major concern.
“There were two fires. The larger one was a bit further to the north and it has burned 229 hectares and it’s status is also being held now. The other one was just a two hectare size fire.”
