TAYLOR, B.C. — It was an epic 48 straight hours of slo-pitch action in Taylor as the 11th Annual Allen Lafleur Memorial Tournament of Hope took place last weekend.
39 teams competed in 96 games over the course of the weekend. After all was said and done, the Racksmackers placed first in the ‘A’ Division, beating the Farm Team in the final. The Summer Swingers managed to win the ‘B’ Division over the Brew Crew. In the ‘C’ Division, One Hit Wonders placed first ahead of Team Day Drunk. Two Balls and a Glove were the ‘D’ Division winners, beating The Minors in the final. The ‘E’ Division saw Pitches be Crazy lose to the Young Guns in that final.
Meanwhile, there was also an exciting competition over who would win the Toilet Bowl Award as the tournament’s 39th place team. Organizer Velma Alexander said that both teams in the bottom-bracket game wanted to win the coveted award. In the end, it was The Mustangs that would celebrate losing that match to the Dirtbag Death Squad.
Alexander says that though organizers have not gotten a final tally together, she estimates that over $21,000 was raised at this year’s tournament. She added that over $8,000 was raised at the tournament concession alone.
Alexander also extended thanks on behalf of Lafleur’s family to all of the tournament’s volunteers and sponsors for making this year’s event a success.
