BURNABY, B.C. — Fort St. John native Shaya Jeffrey landed some big jumps during her two skates at the 2017 BC Summer Skate in Burnaby last week.

Competing in the Novice Ladies division for the first time, Jeffrey, who trains with the Mt. Boucherie Skating Club in West Kelowna, finished 8th in the short program and 10th in the long program. She was one of 17 skaters to compete in the division.

Gail Weber, BC Team Manager with Skate Canada, says that the BC Summer Skate is one of the BC branch’s biggest competitions of the year. Weber says that the open competition had a total of 900 skaters compete from Wednesday to Sunday last week at 8 Rinks in Burnaby.

Jeffrey will next be in action once the figure skating season ramps up in the late Fall.
