FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Stats Canada has released another round of 2016 census data.

The numbers for Fort St. John show that 60.8% of the total population aged 15 and over were either married (45.3%) or living with a common-law partner (15.5%). Stats Canada says the remaining 39.2% were not married and not living with a common-law partner, including those who were single (never-married), separated, divorced or widowed.

24.1% of households in Fort St. John were one-person households. 30% were a couple census family with children while 25.2% were a couple census without children.

Stats Canada also released the following statistics for Fort St. John:

  • In 2016, 12.1% of adults aged 15 and over living in private dwellings lived alone, 60.5% lived in a couple and 5.1% lived as a lone parent.
  • In 2016, 12.1% of adults aged 15 and over living in private dwellings lived alone, 60.5% lived in a couple and 5.1% lived as a lone parent.
  • 73.9% of persons living in a couple were married in 2016, while 26.1% were living common law.
  • In 2016, the proportion of young adults aged 20 to 34 living with at least one parent was 12.9% compared to 11.8% in 2011.
  • In 2016, there were 35 same-sex couples.
  • In 2016, among couple census families 46.6% were families without children and 53.5% were families with children.

Nationally of 14.1 million households, only 28.2 percent contained a single person. Single-parent families grew by 5.6 percent between.
