FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Alli Peck has been in the photography industry for some time and has been specializing in maternity and newborn photography for the last 13 years and now she is instructing others on the world stage.
Peck runs Glow Portraits and is based in Fort St. John. She is starting her journey to teach at a conference in Brazil on Tuesday but will also be visiting Ireland in October and New Zealand and Australia in November.
“It’s crazy thinking ‘little old Fort St. John’ and now I’m actually getting known throughout the world, it is pretty amazing.”
Peck says she decided to specialize in maternity photography when she had three kids of her own.
“It was just starting to emerge, newborn photography then. It was becoming ‘a thing’. There are so many babies being born up here and I thought it was something I could do and it just started from there.”
She adds that she believes her success started on her Facebook page. She already has close to 105,000 people like her page.
“I’ve taught at two of the worlds biggest photography conventions now and one of them was last year called ‘The Baby Summit’ and it is so far the biggest newborn and maternity conference and I was actually an instructor last year.”
Peck will also be teaching at ‘Imaging USA’, the second biggest conference in the U.S. in January. It will be her second time teaching at the event. She believes this is her calling, so to speak.
“I love it. I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.”
But she also says her success comes from those in Fort St. John, even though the community itself is small, she is grateful for everyone who has helped her get to where she is.
“It’s crazy. People think I live in a big city like Toronto or Vancouver but I tell them not only am I from a small town, it’s northern British Columbia. They’re just shocked.
I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for the people from here. Being able to use them and get my portfolio to where it is, it’s just great.”
While in Brazil, Peck will have one day where she speaks in front of an assembly of people and the second day will be teaching in the form of a workshop.
