FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. — After last weekend’s tournament in Taylor, there’s going to be another slo-pitch tournament in Fort St. John this weekend.

Fort St. John Slo-Pitch League secretary Becky Pruden said that the tournament will see teams compete to form the best poker hands over the competition’s two days. Pruden says that 14 teams will be playing five games each, with the winning team getting two cards and the losing team only one. After five games, the teams will have to make the best poker hand with the cards that they have.

Pruden said that this year’s poker tournament will be aiming to raise money for wildfire evacuees in the Central Interior of B.C. The prize for the home run derby, which is taking place on Saturday at 4:00 p.m., will be split 50/50 between the winner, and the Canadian Red Cross. Pruden added that anyone wanting to donate can do so at the tournament beer gardens on Saturday until 5:00 p.m.

The tournament itself begins on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Surerus Fields.
