GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. – One man is in custody after allegedly assaulting a member of the Grande Prairie RCMP and stealing a pickup truck.
Yesterday morning at approximately 4:00 a.m., the RCMP were dispatched to a break and enter at a rural property north east of the Grande Prairie. The responding officer located a suspect vehicle in the area of the complaint and attempted to confront the driver. While interacting with the vehicle’s occupants the RCMP officer was attacked with bear spray. As the officer made his way back to his vehicle to call for backup, the suspect vehicle fled the area through a field. A short time later, police located the suspect vehicle but learned that another vehicle had been stolen from a nearby rural residence.
Late yesterday afternoon, police located the suspect at the wheel of a stolen white Ford F350 pickup truck. The suspect, whose name has not been released, is currently in custody awaiting a release hearing. No word yet on whether any charges have been laid.
