Support Fort St John News

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Big Brothers Big Sisters of Fort St. John recently finished the Santa’s Anonymous campaign last week with a goal of helping those in need.

“We’re waiting for final numbers from Home Hardware with regards to what came through the till on the final day for them” said Danielle Armstrong with Big Brothers Big Sisters.

The campaign ran on Thursday and Friday and the goal was to raise $10,000.00.

When they had left on Friday at last check, they had raised $7,770 just in cash and gift cards. The sleigh that was on site was estimated to be holding $2000.00 in gifts (they will do a final tally at a later date).

Big Brothers Big Sisters Executive Director Danielle Armstrong says they also have to take into account the adoptions of families. She says the final number of adoptions will continue to grow as Christmas nears. There are currently 124 individuals that have already been sponsored and more are being added every day.

She says it was the acts of kindness from the community that stood out to her the most. She referenced when one woman was waiting outside on Thursday before the store opened to make a donation and a little boy who Armstrong guesses was around 5 years-old, made a donation of $20.

Home Hardware also adopted a family to help the cause. Something Armstrong says was very touching.

Big Brothers Big Sisters will be busy all the way until Christmas to help bring Christmas to those in need.
