FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Luxx Limousines has been operating in Fort St. John for just over a year. Although they haven’t been around for that long, they are getting more and more calls for services.

Joe Catton, who started the company says they have been getting calls from people wanting rides from the airport, to the airport or just to take them somewhere in general. The problem is right now, they can’t accommodate it.

Currently, the company uses a 2004 – 12 passenger black stretched limousine for weddings, birthdays and corporate events. They are looking to add a sedan and a 8 passenger black limo.

Catton says that people want peace of mind that they will have a quality ride to rely on.

“They want to pay for that piece of mind. They have every right to look into those services. It isn’t always just about the transportation, the vehicle is just the tool. It is what we put into it, and the service and the chauffeur. We’re licensed for that. That is a service that is included in the price and they expect that.”

He says they have been getting calls for many events that happen in Dawson Creek at the Encana Events Centre. They currently only have the 1 limo, and once that is booked, they can’t do anymore.

“Sometimes it isn’t 12 or 20 people, sometimes it is just 4 or they don’t want to drink and drive, they book that in advance and get there and back at $70, $80 bucks a person and they are taken care of.”

The company needs letters of support to move forward with the application that goes to the Passenger Transportation Board. They have to state where they would use the services that they are looking to add and have support from people that have used the services in the past or would use them going forward.

CEO’s from companies have been looking for transportation that is appropriate for them. Something Catton wants to offer.

“They don’t want to send a dirty pickup to go pick them up. They go pickup a CEO of a car manufacturer and they are going to tour around the Peace Region, go for lunch and they are going to want to use us and take that 1 sedan or limo, but they aren’t going to take a big excursion, that isn’t really appropriate.”

The current limo they have, they can’t offer for anything below a price that is in the transportation agreement that they currently are under. With the new services they want to add, they could offer flat rates of $60 – $80 instead of the higher prices they currently have for the larger limo.

“We want to add those vehicles that would go for different rates so that when we have 2 people, it isn’t outrageously priced. If they don’t have that option to use, some people will do things like rent a car, some people just need a cab but other people want something else and that is what we’re trying to do, fill that void.”

With the new vehicles, they could rent by the hour or by the day, something Catton says is crucial.

“We aren’t metered at all, not like a taxi. We can pick you up at the airport, give you a day rate and then drop you back off.”

He says he can have all the money and qualifications in the world, but the Transportation Board needs to see the support for the services to be added. He says he will be getting as many letters of support as he can in the next couple of weeks.

“If I’m not able to prove to that Board that there is a need for it, they won’t issue it. So we have to vocalize that we want this and want to see this.

I could have any amount of money behind me and all the experience in the world, but if the board is not seeing anything to support it, they won’t back it.”
