Fort St. John Flyers improve to 2-0 after win in Spirit River

SPIRIT RIVER, A.B. – The Fort St. John Flyers improved their record to 2-0 last night in NPHL action.

The Flyers were in Spirit River last night taking on the Rangers. Spirit River struck first with a powerplay goal midway through the first, but Jeff Shipton answered back for the Flyers with a powerplay goal of his own assisted by Daylen Pearson and Brody Busche with 25 seconds left.

Shipton struck again with another powerplay goal 8 minutes into the second assisted by Rick Cleaver and Adam Horst. The Rangers answered back once again with a shorthanded goal five minutes later, before Robbie Sidhu scored on the powerplay with one second left in the frame to put the Flyers up 3-2. Busche and Horst tallied assists on that goal.

Going into the third, the Flyers continued to dominate. Shipton scored less than 5 minutes in to get the hat-trick on a feed from Cleaver and Cody Hildebrand. After Spirit River responded with a pair of goals to even things up just past the halfway mark, it was all Fort St. John from then on. Brody Busche tallied his third point of the night, scoring with 2:59 left in the third assisted by Shipton and Cleaver. Thirty seconds later, Shipton himself scored his fourth to add some insurance for the Flyers, helped out by Andrew Payou. Robbie Sidhu sealed the fate of the Rangers to give the Flyers a 7-4 win with a minute and a half left, assisted by Pearson.

The Flyers are back on home ice on Saturday night to host the Falher Pirates. The puck drops at the North Peace Arena tomorrow at 8:30 p.m.
