FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – A draft version of the City of Fort St. John’s Parks and Recreation Master Plan has been published.

The city published the draft onto the website yesterday. Though it is not the final version of the plan, the draft brings the plan one step closer to becoming a reality after months of consultations and feedback from residents. The city’s Director of Community Services Wally Ferris says that the feedback came from public online and telephone surveys, heard consultations with the city’s youth advisory committee, and had pop-up booths at over a dozen community events over the summer.

Ferris says that the city will be collecting feedback on the draft plan until November 25th. After that, city staff will compile the final master plan that will be put forward to city council in December. After that, it will be up to council to approve the master plan “in principal,” with individual items in the plan to be approved by council at a later date, taking the city’s budget into account at the time that the plan calls for those to be implemented.

Questions and further feedback can be done online, or hard copy comment forms can also be completed and dropped off at City Hall. Posters and comment forms will be displayed at select locations in Fort St. John including the North Peace Leisure Pool, City Hall, the Pomeroy Sports Centre, the North Peace Cultural Centre, and at Northern Lights College. A copy of the draft master plan can be found here:
