FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City of Fort St. John and Fort St. John RCMP are investigating after the playground structure in Pickell Park was vandalized.

The damage occurred sometime during the week of September 26th, and the playground will have to be removed as the damage to the equipment impacted its structural integrity and is no longer safe. It is not known when new playground equipment will be installed.

“It is really disappointing to have to remove playground equipment from a park. We simply don’t have the funds to replace expensive equipment in our budget this year,” stated Chris Murphy, the City of Fort St. John’s Grounds Manager.

This is not the first time play structures have been vandalized in Fort St. John. In recent weeks, city crews have repaired a number of structures and cleaned off spray paint from others. In addition, several trees in Toboggan Hill park were cut down last week.

Residents are encouraged to contact police if they witness anyone vandalizing public property. The non-emergency number is 250-787-8140.
