Man dead after crash into the Peace River near Hudson’s Hope

HUDSON’S HOPE, B.C. – One man is dead after a fatal single vehicle accident near Hudson’s Hope.

At 9:25 on Thursday morning, the Hudson’s Hope RCMP were called to the scene of a single vehicle crash approximately 12 kilometers north of Hudson Hope on Highway 29. A silver-coloured vehicle was discovered to have left the highway and gone down a 100 meter embankment where it came to rest partially submerged in the river.

Members of the North Peace Search and Rescue, as well as Fire Rescue and BC Ambulance crews arrived to assist police. The Peace Canyon Dam was also called to slow the river’s water output, dropping the river level to assist in the recovery efforts.

Upon reaching the vehicle they found a male, deceased, in the driver’s seat. Search efforts did not locate anyone else and it is believed that the driver was the only occupant in the vehicle at the time of the crash. The identity of the man has been confirmed, however his name has not been released.

The BC Coroner’s Service and police are continuing to investigate the crash. It is not known when the collision may have occurred and the RCMP are asking anyone who may have information to contact the Hudson Hope RCMP at (250) 783-5241 or Crime Stoppers at 1 800-222-8477.
