City and BC Hydro working out details on Site C RCMP staff

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The City and BC Hydro are working out the details on a deal that would see BC Hydro pay for a RCMP member.

BC Hydro is asking that one of the two new positions that Council had approved in 2015 be clearly designated as the position that was identified in the Community Benefit Agreement.

When Council originally approved this position, they had not yet signed an official agreement. With that agreement now in force, BC Hydro has agreed to pay for one RCMP member for the duration of the contract.

The RCMP member has been identified between the parties. The member has been working in the local detachment since September of 2016.  The City and BC Hydro are now sorting out the billing process.

“As a point of clarification, the member’s position is identified for the purposes of billing only. Their duties fall within the post detachment operating model and they, along with the rest of the policing complement, respond to police related calls which include calls to Site C related issues.”

The City will provide the required documentation to BC Hydro to help the billing and payment processes to move forward.
