CHETWYND, B.C. – One person is dead and another is in hospital this morning after a single-vehicle rollover crash just north of Chetwynd last night.
Sgt. Scott Hromadnik with the Chetwynd RCMP says that the crash happened last night at 10:52 on Highway 29 just north of the Jackfish Lake Road turnoff. Hromadnik says that the vehicle was travelling southbound towards Chetwynd when the driver lost control and the vehicle rolled over striking a tree. The vehicle’s two occupants were both not wearing seat belts and were ejected from the vehicle. One of the vehicle’s occupants has been pronounced deceased, while the other was taken to hospital with minor injuries. Their names have not been released.
Hromadnik says that the highway was closed for nearly ten hours as investigators from Fort St. John and Dawson Creek, and a collision reconstructionist from Prince George investigated the accident. Hromadnik added that while do not yet have a cause, police have not ruled out speed or impairment as a cause.
