FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Home2 Suites by Hilton in Fort St. John is taking donations for a family that had their house catch fire earlier this week.
The fire happened at a home in the 10500 block of 104 Ave. shortly before 4:00 on Monday afternoon. Upon arrival, crews discovered the home’s carport was fully engulfed in flames, though they were able to quickly bring the fire under control. Speaking with Energeticcity.ca, Cpt. Dan Golob with the Fort St. John Fire Department said that the cause of Monday’s fire is still undetermined as investigators continued to work on finding the cause today. He confirmed that the homeowner had at least one propane tank stored in the carport, but would not confirm whether it played a part in the blaze.
Sales Manager Nadya McLean with the Home2 Suites said that the hotel is currently taking donations for the family that has been displaced from their home. McLean stated that the hotel’s General Manager was inspired to help take donations for the family after taking donations when another fire affected a family during the Christmas season some years ago. McLean added that the hotel will be taking donations of cash, gift certificates, as well as items that the family has a need for. The list is as follows:
- Pet food for a large breed dog, as well as a leash and collar.
- Bedding and food for a hamster.
- Adult women’s clothing, size medium.
- Women’s shoes, size 9-10.
- Adult men’s clothing, size medium.
- Girl’s shoes, size 6-6x, along with shoes/boots size 13.
Donations are being accepted at the hotel’s front desk until further notice
