CHETWYND, B.C. – Spectra Energy is seeking National Energy Board approval to expand a loop of the Fort St. John Mainline.

JWN Energy is reporting that the proposed Wyndwood 36-inch expansion project southwest of Chetwynd would extend roughly 28 kilometres west to Spectra’s existing Compressor Station No.2 at Willow Flats. In addition to a loop of the existing 30-inch mainline, the project will include minor modifications to piping at the station.

The Wyndwood expansion will enable Spectra to provide incremental firm transportation service from receipt points along the Fort St. John Mainline.

In a regulatory filing, Spectra said it has received requests for additional Zone 3 firm transportation service in order to accommodate increasing levels of production from the Montney formation in northeast B.C. In response to a binding open season conducted in the summer of 2015, Spectra entered into expansion service agreements with shippers for 50 million cubic feet per day of incremental firm service. The average term of the agreements is approximately 12 years.

Spectra said it hopes to receive NEB approval in March 2017 and start compression station work in May. Pipeline construction would begin in August of next year, with a planned in-service date for the proposed expansion facilities in the first quarter of 2018.

Spectra is also planning to construct up to 260 million cubic feet per day of incremental eastbound transportation capacity for deliveries to interconnection points with TransCanada Pipelines and Alliance Pipeline near Gordondale, Alberta.
