FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Fort St. John Huskies will once again be playing a pair of games at home and on the road this coming weekend.

On Friday night the Huskies will be in Fairview to take on the Flyers, before returning to the North Peace Arena on Saturday to host the Sexsmith Vipers for the second time this season. While the Huskies have beaten both teams earlier this season, in the case of the Flyers by the score of 6-1, head coach Todd Alexander says that the team has to show up to play, unlike last Saturday night against the Beaverlodge Blades. “We play the best team in the league one night and come out victorious, then we play the worst team in the league the next night and forget to show up,” said Alexander in reference to last Saturday’s loss to the Blades. “They have a player that’s lights out, he scores every night for them, no matter what the score is. Usually multiples, and he just went off on us. We were soft and we weren’t competing, and the effort level was not there for us that night. He found a lot of room and a lot of space and ended up torching us for six goals, and that’ll happen to you when you don’t show up and you think you’re just going to win.”

The Huskies have been working extensively on building on the season’s progress, especially in the defensive zone. Alexander added that the team has “definitely got to get a lot better and lot harder in our own zone playing defensive hockey. We’ve been pretty wide open for the last little bit,” adding that the team has been saved by some phenomenal goaltending by netminders Jonathan Bateman and Mathieu Fawcett. Alexander added that the team will be aiming to improve in that area with both games coming up this weekend.

The Huskies take to the ice Friday in Fairview at 7:30 p.m. Fort St. John time before hosting the Sexsmith Vipers on Saturday night at the North Peace Arena. Warmup starts at 7:30 with the puck drop at 8:00.
