GRANDE PRAIRIE, A.B. – The Grande Prairie RCMP say one shot was fired inside the Prairie Mall late Thursday afternoon, leaving two people injured. When RCMP members arrived on scene, they learned two groups of males had an altercation in the mall and one of the males suffered a serious but non-life threatening injury.
The rest of the males quickly exited the mall. Police made extensive patrols of the area but the males involved were not located. A female bystander was also injured during this incident with a non-life threatening injury. Both victims were transported to hospital.
Police believe this was not a random act and there is no risk for public safety. A description of the suspect is currently not available.
The Prairie Mall has been closed while members along with GIS (General Investigation Section), RCMP Forensic Identification unit (FIS) and Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team (ALERT) continue to investigate.
