FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Peace Region, warning that the season’s first snowfall is expected this weekend.
According to the statement, the entire region including Fort St. John, Taylor, Dawson Creek, Hudson’s Hope, and Chetwynd can expect snow to begin late Friday night and continue into late Saturday. A large trough of low pressure off the South Coast has moved the jet stream south to the vicinity of Oregon and northern California.
Though there is some uncertainty to the exact track of the low pressure system at this time, the latest models suggest that the low will track far enough to the east to allow the cold air to remain in the area and produce snow. If snow materializes, at least 10 centimetres of the white stuff can be expected by Saturday evening.
