FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – A cheque for $11,003.47 was presented to the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society at a Rotary Club luncheon this afternoon.
Jenn Pimm from the Resource Society Board of Directors was on hand to accept the cheque. The money came from the Mother’s Day Run which was held on August 22nd, 2016. Soctiabank also raised $503.47 in the Fort St. John branch and matched another $5000.00.
Pimm says that the Society is providing some extremely important services to the community right now, especially with the economy the way it is.
“We’re incredibly grateful. We want to thank the Rotary Club and Scotiabank for the support. We are providing some really crucial services in Fort St. John right now and with the way the economy has been going, we really have seen a dramatic increase in people accessing the services.”
In August of this year, they had 590 clients come to the Society. It was a 32% increase from July of this year. Pimm says it is the highest number it has been in the last 3 years. The current average of clients is 416 a month. That is a 56% increase from last year.
She also outlined what exactly money buys for the Resource Society:
- $5 can buy 4 food items (clients are allowed 4 food items per week).
- $480 buys food for 24 clients for one week.
- $2360 buys food for 180 clients for one week.
- $11,800 provides food for one month for 590 clients.
- $70,800 provides food for 6 months.
Pimm says the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society is always looking for food donations year round and encourages people to participate in fundraisers for the Society.
