FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Peace River Regional District had a Groundwater Baseline Project completed recently and they will be presenting the findings are 3 meetings across the district. The study was over 2 years. It was a partnership with the Real Estate Foundation who supplied funding. They studied the whole regional districts water.
The first meeting was in Chetwynd last night. The next meeting is tomorrow night in Dawson Creek Sudeten Hall, 1901 Alaska Hwy at 7:00 pm.
The last meeting will take place in Charlie Lake on Thursday night. That meeting will be held at 12717 Charlie Lake Hall Ave, also at 7:00 pm.
The presentation will include a snap shot of the regional groundwater resources, aquifers and a regional description of water quality.
Hudson’s Hope will be having their own meeting, not included in the PRRD meetings list. Mayor Gwen Johansson said today the meeting will be tonight at 7:00 pm at the Hudson’s Hope Community Hall.
Johansson said the difference is that 3 meetings are being held by the PRRD, but they will be holding their own meeting. If the people of Hundson’s Hope were going to get to know what the results were, they would have to travel.
She says water is really important in the area. They have made arrangements for someone to come to them and do the presentation of the area.
The same material will be covered at the meeting in Hudson’s Hope. Johansson says she believes the information will be tailored to each communities needs, something she says will be good for her community.
She also said it isn’t that they did their own study, it was more of a geographical issue of getting to the other meetings.
