FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – If your natural gas is supplied by FortisBC, be prepared for a increase on your bill.

FortisBC announced today that residential natural gas prices are set to go up starting in October.

The company says it has received approval for the price hike from the BC Utilities Commission.

Fortis also said a hotter-than-usual summer in North America is what is behind the price increase.

FortisBC spokesperson Micheal Allison said natural gas is bought and sold based on open-market
prices so the extra cost has to be passed on to customers. Customers can expect a rise of $82 a year.

Fort Nelson will not have to pay the increase because they are located close to natural gas plants and are considered a separate service area the company said.
