Rainfall warning issued for Fort Nelson – 50 to 60 mm expected by Saturday

FORT NELSON, B.C. – Environment Canada has issued a rainfall warning for Fort Nelson.  Over the last 48 hours 50 mm of rain has fallen at the Fort Nelson Airport and Environment Canada expects another 55 to 60 mm before the rain moves out the area on Saturday.  See the full warning below.

For Fort St. John and the North Peace, rain is expected to continue until Saturday.  Fort St. John could see up to 15 mm before the rain slows down on Friday.

Current details:
A long episode of rain, at times heavy, is expected.

An upper low centre will move across the BC Interior tonight into Saturday. A band of moisture wrapping around the low will give steady rain to the Fort Nelson region until early Saturday. In the last 48 hours over 50 mm of rain has fallen at the Fort Nelson airport with a further 55 to 60 mm of rain expected by early Saturday morning.

Localized flooding in low-lying areas is possible.

Watch for possible washouts near rivers, creeks and culverts.
