Display at local park shows how many people are struggling in Fort St. John

FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – The Women’s Resource Society, Salvation Army, and Friendship Centre have come together to show visually how many clientele they are receiving.

On Tuesday morning at 100th and 1ooth, they set up 689 pairs of shoes to demonstrate the number of people that they see in one week using services.

Phallon Stoutenburg says it shows how many people access food related services in the community, whether it is from the Salvation Army, Resource Society or the friendship centre.

They will have a table set up until about 3:00 pm. They are collecting non-perishable food items and the Women’s Resource Centre will be collecting memberships.

The goal is to show people what food security looks like in Fort St. John, and to also show just how many people need help on not just a weekly basis, but a general basis.
