FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – At Sunday’s rescheduled Rotary Club Mother’s Day Walk and Run, 276 racers braved conditions that, albeit weren’t the best, were described as “perfect” by runner Miles Bason.

Bason was the 10 k run’s fastest runner, who finished in a blistering 38:22. Bason says that the light sprinkling of showers, slight wind, and cooler temperatures are more favourable to runners than sunny heat with no wind. Niki Haugan was the fastest female competitor in both the 20-39 age group and overall in the 10 k, finishing in 40:07. Kenzie Chilcott was the lone entrant in the female 14-19 age group, completing the run in 49:34, while Greta Goddard and Alison Tucker topped the Female 40-54 and 55+ age groups in 51:21 and 52:28 respectively. David Shipalesky lead the three Male 14-19 runners with a fast 44:04. Steve Troyer ran in 44:52 to take first in the Males 40-54 age category, while Phil Rempel was the 55+ fastest runner, completing in 46:36.

The 5 k race saw nearly 3 times the numbers of runners: 167 compared to only 52. Isaac Goodrich completed the run the fastest overall in 17:04. Goodrich also took first in the Male 14-19 group. Bailey Haugan was the fastest female 5 k runner, running in 18:52.

The next-fastest female runner also took first place in the 20-39 age group: Erin Brody ran the 5 k in 24:10. Morgan Armstrong topped the 13 and under girls category in 15:06. Amy te Bulte ran a 27:09 to win the 40-54 class, while the 55+ runners were lead by Valerie Taylor (31:49).

On the men’s side, Chris Biagini managed a quick time of 20:51 for the 20-39 age group. Ty Haugan’s 24:09 was best for the Boys 13 and under group. Matthew Jarnagin lead the 40-54 class in 24:20, followed by Rick Brown’s lead in the 55+ group in 25:13.

Organizers haven’t yet confirmed the total raised in support of the Fort St. John Women’s Resource Society, but say that early estimates on Sunday confirmed that it was close to the $10,000 mark.
