FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – From August 23rd to September 23rd, the City of Fort St. John will be doing a “food for tickets” to help struggling food banks in the region.
At Christmas time, the City usually does something similar, where the City will waive by-law tickets if you bring in toys.
This time, it’s food, but also donations needed for the food banks that are running low. The donations would be used to buy other items that the locations might need.
The Salvation Army, Women’s Resource Centre, and the Friendship Society are all seeing major increase in numbers and are struggling to keep up.
The Women’s Resource Society recently held a visual representation in the park in Fort St. John, using a pair of shoes for every person they saw in one month alone.
Each centre has reported a major increase in numbers. In just June this year alone, these were the numbers:
- Salvation Army (food related only): 1653
• FSJ Women’s Resource Society (outreach): 492
- FSJ Friendship Society (food bus): 1301
Those numbers, for those society’s are alarming and they are asking for any help they can get.
So now is the perfect time to get rid of those tickets that you may or may not have deserved.
