FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – After the staggering numbers came out about illicit drug deaths, most notably fentanyl, those numbers are still appearing to be steady, according to the government.

The government announced a task force in recent months and those task groups are focused on specific aspects of the response have been formed and are well underway.

According to recent numbers released by the government regarding fentanyl deaths, from 2013 to 2016, the Northern Region has been at the top when it comes to fentanyl deaths.

This year, in 2016 (January through June), the breakdown is as follows:

Northern region: 75%, Island region: 71%, Fraser region: 60%, Interior region: 58%, Metro region: 58%.

From 2012 to 2016, the northern region has seen 238 fentanyl deaths. So far this year to date, there have been 21.
