FORT ST. JOHN, B.C. – In just one week, both ice rinks and the speed skating oval at the Pomeroy Sports Centre will be back up and running.

Carrie Storozynsky with the city of Fort St, John says that crews had already laid down five eighths of an inch of ice on Friday, and spent the weekend painting the ice with the necessary lines. She says that crews are on schedule to have the required 1 ½ inches of ice all prepped and ready to go by Sunday, in anticipation to reopening on Monday, August 22nd. While both ice sheets are closed until next week, the running track on the third floor of the centre remains open, and provides a chillier atmosphere than in weeks past.

Storozynsky says that next Monday, the city has a number of events planned for the reopening, including drop-in hockey for kids aged 8-12 from 4:00 – 5:30 p.m., and youth hockey for 13 to 15 year-olds from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. Adult drop-in hockey for anyone aged 16+ is also available from noon to 1:30, while the oval will be open for a public skating session between 5:00 and 7:00 p.m.
